Did your Grandma have a “pressure cooker”?

Question by Blond Chocolate: Did your Grandma have a “pressure cooker”?
Do use one even now? mine did and so did all my aunties….i considered them old-fashioned till my mom recently told me they could cook big potatoes in 20 minutes! I wonder why more people still dont use them today? as an alternative to microwaves-which only “wrinkle” them?

Yes, I still have a pressure cooker my Dad bought me. I rarely use it, though, and I don’t know why because it is like a crockpot, but in less time. I always love the food.
Edit: I honestly think one of the reasons I don’t use my pressure cooker more is that I remember my parents and myself sitting outside on the porch waiting on our pressured cooked meal(roast, potatoes, carrots & cabbage) to be done, and we heard an explosion sound. When we ran into the house, the pressure cooker had exploded and food was everywhere.I just don’t want that to happen to me, and I am sure my Mother never expected it either.

I have one but I don’t actually know how to use the bugger. I always get a bit paranoid that it might blow up and pebbledash my kitchen with potato pieces.

My granny had one and we were never aloud to go into the kitchen if she was using it. We were told that it could explode. The old one actually could. They are good for canning, cooking potatoes and many other things. The newer ones have a pressure release valve so they aren’t likely to explode like the old ones. My mother in law cooks lots of things in hers. I just have good memories of my granny canning pickles, tomatoes, okra, squash, jams and jellies and all types of goodies.

Yes! My Grandmother did My Mother did and so do I !! There not old fashion. I have a newer model and I can cook almost anything in it! They cook really fast so you don’t have to wait long. Microwaves are terrible for cooking.I only use mine to warm things up! ♥
