Question by malancam55: What is the basis for curious Japanese cultural expressions?
In even a cursory look around the internet, one readily finds examples that the Japanese respond apparently quite differently to the “norms” of other societies.
Whether on YouTube, adult oriented sites or elsewhere there seems to be an appreciation for the bizarre.
Many T.V. games shows exhibit extremes of pain, humiliation or nudity/ sex. Sometimes the examples are of singular participants: other times mass orgies of bizarre behaviour or sex.
What motivates this ?
Is it fame, money, recognition — or just the joy of complete abandonment in a pressure-cooker “sardine-like” environment?
